What we are learning this week …
Reading:
Math:
Readers are learning
about what figurative language is this week and the
importance of stopping and
noticing it as a reader. We
will practice thinking about
what our author means when
they use comparative language
and brainstorm how the two
things in our book are alike.
We will also work on figuring
out what our author really
means when they use words
that can mean more than one
thing.
We will be finishing
our geometry unit this week.
Aside from continuing to explore features of 2-D and 3D shapes, students will begin
learning about symmetry. We
have many engaging (and Halloween themed!) math menu
choices this week, which provide opportunities for us to
continue solidifying our 1st
nine weeks math skills (place
value, doubles, +/- within 20,
etc.).
Writing:
Science:
This week will conclude
We are shifting genres
our unit on Matter. We’ve had
fun learning about solids, liquids,
of writing for the 2nd nine
and gases.
weeks. Students will be
learning about opinion writing.
We will begin this unit by
studying the parts of a letter
and crafting opinion letters
about a character in a book
we are reading.
