Ms. Peek’s Palace Weekly News BE SAFE BE RESPECTFUL BE YOUR BEST What we are learning this week … Reading: Math: Readers are learning about what figurative language is this week and the importance of stopping and noticing it as a reader. We will practice thinking about what our author means when they use comparative language and brainstorm how the two things in our book are alike. We will also work on figuring out what our author really means when they use words that can mean more than one thing. We will be finishing our geometry unit this week. Aside from continuing to explore features of 2-D and 3D shapes, students will begin learning about symmetry. We have many engaging (and Halloween themed!) math menu choices this week, which provide opportunities for us to continue solidifying our 1st nine weeks math skills (place value, doubles, +/- within 20, etc.). Writing: Science: This week will conclude We are shifting genres our unit on Matter. We’ve had fun learning about solids, liquids, of writing for the 2nd nine and gases. weeks. Students will be learning about opinion writing. We will begin this unit by studying the parts of a letter and crafting opinion letters about a character in a book we are reading. Vocab Words: Our Halloween party is Friday, 10/30, from 1-2:00. Students are dismissed at 2:00 on Friday. Ways you can help… I greatly enjoyed meeting with each of you last week to discuss your child’s progress thus far in 2nd grade. I am very proud of each student!
