Ms. Peek’s Palace Weekly News BE SAFE BE RESPECTFUL BE YOUR BEST What we are learning this week … Reading: Math: We are beginning a new reading unit this week about “Amping Up Our Reading We are enjoying our hands on geometry unit so far! We will focus on sorting shapes, 2-D and 3-D shape attributes, shape terms (vertices, edges, angles, etc.), and explore rectangles in-depth. We will continue to revisit doubles, coins, making ten, and computational strategies throughout the week as we complete our math menus during workshop. I am meeting individually with each mathematician to review doubles, making 10, skip counting, and adding mixed coins. Power.” We will learn strategies for working on our reading voice (inside our head) when we read silently. We will also practice rereading our books, focusing on fluency and reading our books how they’re designed to be read. Readers will practice scooping up several words at a time and reading punctuation, too. Finally, we will study “dialogue tags,” which give readers big clues about how their character’s voices sound.
