What we are learning this week …
Reading:
Math:
Readers are
learning lots about how
to effectively navigate
NF texts. Each student is currently
growing their
knowledge across several books, articles,
and kid-friendly websites to research an
animal of their choice.
There are many budding experts in our
room and we are excited to learn from
each other.
Number talks this
week will focus on subtraction
strategies and telling time.
Math learning goals this week
include the constructing of
“buildings” out of connecting
cubes. Students will be discerning patterns of rows/
columns and practicing concepts of repeated addition.
Students will also be predicting total numbers of “rooms”
if they were to build a certain number of “floors.” Math
menu concepts review: adding
3 numbers, doubles, graphing,
and even/odd.
Writing:
Authors are organizing research information and working to
craft an informational
book about their animal.
Crafting goals include
appropriate mechanics
of writing and the inclusion of text features
(table of contents,
headings, diagrams,
captions, glossaries,
etc.).
