What we are learning this week …
Reading:
Math:
Readers are diving
in headfirst to our
Nonfiction reading
unit. This week, we
will focus specifically
on the following:
We are continuing our
unit of study on data collection and representation. Students worked in pairs last
week to come up with a survey question for the class.
They’ve collected data, and
will work this week on categorizing the data and creating a
representation to show what
they’ve learned. Our math
menu choices review: addition
within 20, mental math, doubles, and doubles +1. Number
talks will review time and
money.
Previewing NF books,
noticing key words,
using all text features
to grow topic
knowledge, and unlocking the meaning of unknown words.
Writing:
We will focus on
punctuation during our
grammar lessons each
day this week. We will
use engaging mentor
texts, (ex: Punctuation
Takes a Vacation) to
realize how important
punctuation is for
speaking, listening,
reading, and writing.
Social Studies:
We have had lots of fun
during our Economics unit so far!
We will work this week on producing money in our “factory,”
which we will need for our
“KidsTown” market soon! We will
also continue to learn about the
following important terms:
goods/services, producers/consumers, needs/wants,
scarcity, opportunity cost, income, bartering, and natural/man-made resources.
