What we are learning this week …
Reading:
Math:
We are beginning
a Nonfiction reading
unit of study this 3rd
9 weeks. We will work
on noticing and learning from details, putting together information to grow topic
knowledge. We will
work on monitoring for
meaning by questioning
ourselves about wonderings and what the
book is teaching us.
We are starting a unit
on data collection and representation. Students will be
participating in constructing
survey questions, collecting
data, and creating representations of their data. Math
menu choices will review the
following concepts: addition
within 20, doubles, and doubles+1. Number talks will include solving equations with
many addends, time, and
money.
Writing:
Social Studies:
We will begin a
Nonfiction writing unit
of study next week,
after spending some
time in NF mentor
texts. This week we
will do some handwriting practice, as well as
New Years writing activities.
Our class is embarking
on a fun adventure learning
about Economics! We will
spend this week learning about
goods/services, production/distribution, scarcity,
and opportunity costs. We’ll
also work on discerning between human-made and manmade resources. It will be
lots of fun!
