What we are learning this week …
Reading:
We are continuing to
work on self selecting books
that fit our reading muscles.
Students will get helpful
book marks with tips for
choosing just right books.
We are still establishing
norms for what the parts of
workshop look and sound like.
Students are regularly conferring with both me and
partners.
Writing:
We are enjoying our
narrative unit so far! Authors have chosen their
topic (small moment) and
are learning about webbing, adding details, and
sticking to topics. Authors
are enjoying sharing and
conferring. We are writing ice-cream sundaes
versus scoops of vanilla!
Student of the
Week:
Math:
Math is off to a
super start! Students will
be exploring adding
mixed groups of coins
and working on coin identification. We are also
working on collecting data and expanding our
counting strategies. We’ll
learn some new games
too!
Picture of the Week:
We will start
student of the week on
Sept. 21st. I will send
the schedule home soon.
S.S.:
We are continuing
to work on learning the
location of each continent and ocean. Our quiz
will be this Friday. We
will complete our first
S.S. newspaper and create our very own “Me on
the Map books.”
Ways you can help…

We are still working on finding just right books that we can spend time in to
grow as readers. Please have your child read a book from home and/or read
to your child nightly. Our current stamina goal is to read long and strong for
15 minutes.

Please send in Clorox wipes and Kleenex with your child. Thanks in advance
for your help!

Students, study the locations of the 7 continents and 5 oceans on a world
map. This will be sent home later this week and should stay in your agenda
pocket. The maps & globes assessment is this Friday, 9/4.
