Mario Loiederman Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Silver Spring has been selected to perform at the American Choral Directors Association National Middle School Choral Conference in Dallas from Feb. 29 through March 3, 2012. “This is an extraordinary opportunity for our student body and Chamber Choir. To be selected to perform at a national level only six years into a chorus program is unprecedented. This diverse and talented group of students continues to excel and amaze at every performance,” Christopher Guerra, choral director at Loiederman wrote in an email. The choir is made up of 36 seventh- and eighth-graders from all over the county, as Loiederman is the only all-school magnet devoted to the arts. They perform 15 to 20 engagements every year including the Winter Choral Concert, which will be on at 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at Northwood High School, and a pre-Dallas concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at Loiederman, 12701 Goodhill Road, Silver Spring. The group also has a commemorative CD featuring past and current choral ensembles on sale to help send the Chamber Choir to Dallas. CDs are $12 and available through the school.
