GHS Summer Reading Packet In a school‐wide effort to cultivate literacy and help students enjoy reading throughout the year, GHS summer reading program offers a wider selection of books, and, more importantly, a wider selection of staff with whom students can discuss summer reading. This summer, we have over 75 books from which to choose – but you must sign‐up quickly to get your first choice. Only 25 students get to read each book. Q How do I sign up for my summer reading book? A Follow these 3 simple steps: 1. Go to the GHS website. 2. Follow the summer reading signup instructions. 3. Get a copy of your book – and read it! There are many places where you can obtain a text: Check it out from a local public library Buy a copy from amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com Download an e‐book for your Kindle, Nook, or other e‐reader Check the school website’s summer reading page to see if your text is available from the English department, and sign‐out a copy at lunch during finals week. Q What are my summer reading responsibilities? A You have 3 responsibilities: 1. Read the text you have selected for summer reading. (You are responsible for obtaining a copy of your own text. We encourage you to check out books from GHS’s library or Montgomery County Libraries.) 2. During and after reading, complete this summer reading packet. Everyone completes page 2! Complete the Non‐Fiction Reading Chart if you read a non‐fiction book or articles. Complete the Fiction Reading Chart if you read a fictional text. Complete the Poetry Reading Response sheet (for 5 poems) if you read a book of poetry. 3. Bring your completed packet to the summer reading discussions that will take place at the beginning of the school year. Your packet will count as your first grade of the marking period in English class! 1 Name: S1 English Teacher: Summer Reading Book Teacher: GHS Summer Reading Selfie Contest As you are reading your summer reading text(s), we would like to see selfies of you and your book!
