Minutes of the Northwood HS (NHS) PTSA Meeting
Date: May 19, 2015
Opening: Meeting called to order at 7:40 pm by PTSA President Danielle Gillon with approximately 12
parents and teachers in attendance.
Report of Principal:
Ms. Charley-Greene discussed the fact that scheduling was changing next year to no longer a full block
schedule. Students liked the block schedule because of the extra day to do homework so she initiated a
homework audit to determine if changes would be needed to current homework practices when the
new schedule was implemented.




Homework audit was done by teachers Diana Rodriguez and Christine Khouri.
20 students were surveyed over a span of 10 days from different grade levels and academic
levels including regular, honors, AP, and special ed classes.
Goal was to determine if students currently have a reasonable workload and which areas
involved heavier homework.
A powerpoint with detailed data from the study was reviewed with parents. In general, students
reported receiving more homework in the honors and AP classes.
Ms. Charley-Greene may try to do a practice run of the new schedule before the end of this school year
so students get an idea of what it will be like.
Senior exams are this week and HSAs and PARC testing.
Senior graduation is June 10th at 2:30 pm at DAR Constitution Hall. Students must come to graduation
practice. They will get their graduation tickets there and do a group picture. Graduation practice is June
4th and 5th at 8 am.
Next year’s student schedules are in the mail.
Secretary’s Report: Review of minutes from April 21, 2015. A motion was made to approve the
minutes. It was seconded and approved unanimously.
President’s Report:
President Danielle Gillon stated that three PTSA positions are still available. Andrea Verbruegge agreed
to be the new Secretary. Jenny Espinozz agreed to be the new membership coordinator. Only position
now still open is MCCP Delegate.
The next Executive Board meeting will be June 4th – last meeting of the year.
