Minutes of the Northwood HS (NHS) PTSA Meeting
Date: September 16, 2014
Opening: Meeting called to order at 7:30 pm by PTSA President Danielle Gillon (DG) with approximately
40 parents, teachers, and students in attendance. DG distributed PTSA membership forms and explained
the volunteer sign-up log. Later she distributed a parent survey and asked parents to fill it out before
they left.
Treasurer’s Report: Cathy Shresha distributed the 2014-15 PTSA budget and explained it. A motion was
made to approve the budget. Motion was seconded and approved by a majority of the members.
Principal’s Report:






Northwood has the biggest enrollment this year since the school opened: 1588.
The principal is the 12th grade administrator.
Saturday, Sept. 2oth, is “Battle of the Blvd” (football game between Northwood and Blair).
Principal encouraged everyone to come out and support Northwood. Game starts at 2:00.
Principal introduced the staff present at the meeting and parents were encouraged to talk
individually to them in break out groups in the next part of the program. The administrators and
teachers present were:
o Ms. Wolf (10th grade administrator)
o Sarah Baudry (Academy Coordinator)
o Mr. Fuggitti (Athletic Director)
o Mrs. Rodriguez (theatre director)
o Mr. Miller (Avid program)
o Hazani Israel (9h grade class sponsor)
o Tassi Zahner (10th grade class sponsor)
o Ms. Loughrey (11th grade class sponsor)
o Ms. Reazer (12th grade class sponsor)
o Mr. Clark (US history teacher)
Important upcoming dates:
o Back to School night – 9/18 at 6:30 pm
o International Day of Peace – 9/19, 5k at Northwood on 9/21
A bell schedule review will be coming up this year. Parents are encouraged to participate.
Break Out Groups: Parents could walk around the library and speak to any of the
teachers/administrators present for approximately 20 minutes.
Higher Ground Presentation: Represenative from Higher Ground briefly discussed program. Program is
free and provides tutoring and students can participate in the Baltimore Urban Debate League. Students
attend from 8:30 – 1:00 pm two Saturdays per month. Info session is this Tuesday. Available to Blair,
Northwood, and Blake students.
