Northwood High School PTSA Executive Board Minutes (9/12/2011) Attendees Cathy Louviere (outgoing Pres), Yolanda Mazyck (1st VP), Brad Sperber (2nd VP Candidate), Jim Burke (Outgoing Treasurer, Co-Chair Afterprom Committee), Cyd Rowley (Co-Chair After prom Committee), Lory Greene (Cluster Coordinator), Margretta Diemer (MCCPTA Delegate), Alice Stephens (Newsletter), Pam Megna (Secretary) President’s Report Attended freshman and Senior Breakfasts. 47-48 new memberships received at Freshman Breakfast. Some new memberships received at Senior Breakfast. Solicited volunteers for PTSA positions at both events. There was a general discussion about vacancies. A decision was made to move the September PTSA meeting to forth Tuesday of the month to avoid having the PTSA meeting in the same week Back To School night. The consensus was that parents might opt to skip the PTSA meeting if it is held the same week as the back to school night. Upcoming Meeting Agenda September meeting will include an update by Principal Johnson, information about the Wellness Center and elections for vacant officer positions. October meeting will include a presentation by Ms. Blitz on the PSAT, SAT and ACT tests. There was a brief discussion of upcoming meeting dates as well as meeting dates that conflict with holidays or in which the second Monday of the month occurs in the same week as the third Tuesday. A decision was made to move the November and May PTSA Executive Board meetings to the 1st Monday of the month. A decision was made to have the December PTSA board meeting, but to forego the December General Membership meeting. Budget Jim Burke handed out a copy of the current budget. There was a brief discussion of the budget. Fund Raising Escript/Giant/Sniders - There is a need for a new Escript program manager. 220-225 memberships need to be renewed by the end of October. Giant memberships require a person to renew the memberships. Jim Burke volunteered to handle these. It was relayed to the group, that Carol Smalls recommends that the PTSA solicit Alumni help at Back To School night to help register parents for the Giant and Escript programs. She is willing to help. There is a need for a coordinator for the Escript program, as deadlines need to be met. Honey Baked Ham Promotion -Mrs. Schull will contact HBH. Should have the flyer ready by the October PTSA meeting if PTSA wants to do holiday fundraising program. Last year raised $375.00. The company delivers the individuals orders boxed up, so the distribution is relatively easy. Orders not retrieved can be placed into the school cafeteria refrigerators. PTSA gets 15% of sales. After Prom Committee - Silent Auction will occur on November 5, 2011. It will include an online component this year. The online portion goes live 10 days before the event. Some merchandise will only be available online, and other merchandise will only be available the evening of the event onsite or online. 295 donor request letters have been mailed. The subscription to the online auction service is for a year so it could be used for other NHS organizations. The online service gets a small portion of the online sale proceeds (10%?). Outreach Spanish Translation services - A Freshman parent (Nora Cartland) volunteered during the School Curriculum meeting to help with outreach. There was discussion about sending information to the community via other social media, e.g., text messaging and Twitter, more be more effective means of communicating with the Latino community. She may be willing to help with translation services. A discussion was made to offer SSL hours in exchange of translation services, and to create a list of translators. Newsletter.
