Strength/Weakness/Opportunity Threat

Wheaton Audit 2014
Environmental S.W.O.T. Analysis
A SWOT analysis is when a team looks for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Note: a threat is not as
serious as a weakness but it is something that could become a weakness. Segment numbers are on the map below.
SEGMENT 7:
STRENGTH
This picture was taken on
Grandview Ave. The picture
shows strengths like
benches, trees, parking
meters, and stores. The
parking meters raise money
for the city and the benches
and stores give people a
place to go and sit. Trees
help to provide shade and
cleaner air. However, the
large cracks in the street
could be a potential
weakness by becoming
dangerous pot holes.
SEGMENT 1: WEAKNESS
This picture was taken on the corner of
University Blvd. and Veirs Mill rd. The standing water is a weakness because it makes it
difficult to park and because the standing
water could breed mosquitoes. A proper
drain should be installed.
SEGMENT 5:
OPPORTUNITY
Segment 5, between Grandview
and Veirs Mill road, is an ally
with has multiple f ry oil waste
containers. It is an opportunity
because used oil can be used to
power cars. A car with a diesel
engine can be converted to run
off vegetable oil. There is a lot
of vegetable oil being thrown
away in Wheaton. If someone
converts their car, there is
plenty of free or inexpensive fuel
waiting for them in Wheaton.
This would reduce landfill waste
and reduce our reliance on
fossil fuel.
SEGMENT 7:
THREAT
This picture was taken on University Blvd, close to Ledo Pizza. Over time the
concrete on the sidewalk has begun to erode. This is a threat because It could
potentially be dangerous to pedestrians if it begins to crack and erode more.
