World Breastfeeding Week Plans and Opportunity to Request Materials
World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is August 1-7, 2016, and Minnesota Breastfeeding Awareness
Month is the month of August. Many WIC clinics plan special events or make displays to post for
3 or 4 months. The international theme for WBW is Breastfeeding: A Key to Sustainable
Development. We have decided that this theme is more appropriate for policy makers, so we are
building on last year’s materials, but do have a new color scheme option, using the logo for 2016
WBW. If you would like to use the WBW theme, materials will be available from World
Breastfeeding Week.org (look under downloads) and other sources.
We have materials you can order for your WBW display and/or if you’d like to create displays
for other times of the year. Please request materials by May 20, 2016. Orders will be sent for
printing the following week and mailed by the first or second week of June. In early July, we
plan to provide a template for you to use for a local news release.
Thanks to those who have encouraged women and those that support them in breastfeeding to
enter their “words of wisdom” on the MN WIC website. We’ve used the Words of Wisdom for
World Breastfeeding Week and in other ways, such as the radio ads for the Lactation Station.
This year additional quotes have been added to the WBW materials available to you. We
continue to collect quotes. Quotes can be entered here.
Images of the materials are found on the next page. An order form is included as a separate
document in today’s Wednesday Update.

Comments: Consider using the blank quote bubbles for additional comments from moms, dads,

translate the comments back to you before posting them.) If you wouldn’t mind sharing these
multi-language comments, feel free to email these to Roberta Suski so that we can add them to
our literature for next year.

Trifold
Trifold with Mom’s Milk: Made Just for Me, Mom’s Milk: The Right Amount, and Mom’s Milk is
all it takes! With brief information about each topic.
There is a small mark to use as a guide for folding, resulting in 3 equal size panels and a small
flap to tuck under the last panel. Double sided tape works well for assembling the trifold.
