SEPTEMBER ISSUE #1 GMS MONTHLY GMS BRIDGE PROGRAM September 23, 2013 Celebrating the Life of Ms. Brunzell by Darby J. Recently we found out that a person that we’re all fond of, Ms. Brunzell, has passed away. Fellow reporter Brandi Burstein and I talked with Ms. Goddard about what she was like. I ask her what her opinion on her was, she responded with, “she never lost her temper with anyone”. I found out from Mr. Flaherty that some kids even called her “Mom”. In my opinion she was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, always caring about everybody else. Never ever did she think about herself first when it came to the students and her job. And I know that she will be missed, but she will remain alive in our hearts and minds. A flower for a friend! We miss you, Ms. Brunzell! Come Meet the New Teachers in Bridge! For her birthday, I want to get Page 2 her some mint chocolate chip ice cream which is her favorite kind and goes along with her favorite color which is green. Her favorite part of working at GMS is working alongside awesome teachers like Ms. Rivera and her awesome students. Oh and one fun fact about Ms. Peregoy is that she loves Jesse from Full House. G M S M O N T HL Y Mr. Nelson by Darby Johnson Mr. Nelson. He may seem like an average math teacher. But once you “add up” all the facts, you will find he is much more than that. In my interview with him, I found out interesting facts about him that make him different from many of his peers. The first is that he didn’t intend on being a teacher. In fact he calls himself a “career change person.” Before he became a teacher, he helped make movies by being a sound operator. And these movies were high octane, like Transformers. He also worked in a few Super Bowls. But he said that he doesn’t ever want to film football again because he loves the sport so much, he doesn’t want it to become a job. In his free time, he explained that he loves to walk around outside with his wife “to get lost with nature.” He also likes going to the gym. Overall, I thought that Mr. Nelson was just a plain and simple guy. But once I got to know him, I knew that I can’t judge a math book by its cover. He says that he loves being part of the GMS Family and “It feels like a real family and that feeling you get when you walk in the doors is just incredible.” He said that his plan here at GMS is to “work really hard and to help students reach their academic goals, and maybe in the next couple of years once I get established I’d like to coach some.” Mr. Nelson striking a pose in class! Photo by Noah Hartman Ms. Bennett by Adam Solomon There is this cool teacher in the bridge program named Mrs. Bennett. She Is from Oklahoma, She likes to scuba dive and she read 35 Books this summer. What did she do this past summer? She went to the beach. She let me know that her favorite movie is Top Gun,. Her favorite food is chocolate and her favorite color is green. The best part of her day is her free time and when she gets to play with her kids. After the kids go to sleep she sometimes has time to watch Criminal Minds and play Hearts I asked her what was her favorite part about being in the GMS family and she said having fun with her co-workers. Ms. Bennett has even lived in the Marshall Islands. Ms. Bennett is awesome! Photo by Noah Hartman COFFEE CORNER! By Bryan Grant The Viking Venti is located in Ms. Migyanka’s room, 702.
