December
Kindergarten News
By the end of December we
will have introduced 25 kindergarten sight words. Though students
have until the end of the school
year to demonstrate mastery, we
practice (reading and writing)
them each day to insure that our
children are proficient readers
and well-prepared for first grade.
Please practice at home as we will
introduce additional sight words
after the first of the year.
Remember that as the weather
gets colder, the students should
have clothing appropriate for the
temperature. It’s better to have
the layers and not need them.
Please label all items—the lost-and
-found is overflowing.
We continue to go out midmorning for a short snack
break. The students rely on
this and are always ready to
eat. Please send a snack each
day.
With all the sniffles and
germs floating about, any donations of wipes and tissues
would be appreciated. (We really like Lysol dual action.) If
your child is ill, school policy
states they must be feverfree for 24 hours before returning to class. Children are
not available to learn if they
do not feel well. Thank you for
your cooperation in this matter.

What’s Going On In Class?
Reading: Students identify the
main topic and retell key details of
a text, ask and answer questions
about unknown words in a text, define the role of the author and illustrator.
December sight words: come,
look, on, said, this
Writing: Students draw, dictate,
and write to narrate a series of
events in the order in which they
occurred, and provide a reaction
to what happened.
Math: Students continue to count
to 100 by ones and tens, write
numbers from 0—20, connect number words, numerals, and quantities, and model addition and subtraction word problems.
Science: Students continue to
compare the changes that occur in
the life cycle of animals and
plants; and identify the basic
needs of animals.

how maps are used to help people
locate places; students will describe how goods are acquired
(money, trade).
