Jed’s Journal
Okay 4-H crew, it is Klamath County Fair time once again. It
is time to show the community those projects you have all
worked on so hard throughout the year. Good luck with all
of your competitions throughout the next couple of weeks,
and beyond for those of you who go to State Fair. Applause
to you all for your dedication! Remember to have fun, and
be respectful to one another, and all others throughout fair,
but again have FUN!
The entire event is packed with quality from start to finish.
The pride of the county is being represented at Fair and all of
you 4-H and FFA members are the youth that our community
looks to for our future. When you see the Fairgrounds staff
around the Fair please thank them for all of the hard work
they do. Also this year we have our friends the PRCA to
thank for their generous contribution to 4-H and FFA this
year and in future endeavors.
I will see you all there!!
Work while you have the light. You are responsible for
the talent that has been entrusted to you.

Well, it's coming on quick, FAIR. We hope everyone is ready! All of us
with Basin Browsers Meat Goats just did our Community Service Friday
July 17th and Saturday July 18th. Even with the economy being what it
is, we raised money for the Special Olympics and it turned out great!
Our Community Service was again at Moose Lodge #1106. They
planned a few different activities this year including a parking lot carnival and Kerri Emert, a youth Moose member and 4-H'er, brought two
goats in for a petting zoo for the Special Olympians and everyone else
to enjoy Friday night. Kerri brought her Percentage Breeder Boer, Nora,
born on her farm, and a little meat goat, Boer and LaMancha cross,
named Scorpion, that she had borrowed from Jim and Susan Walters,
to use at Tulelake fair, then to find out later it was a no-go. Some of
the Special Olympians had never seen a goat and confused them with
dogs because they were being walked with leashes. Their smiles of surprise to find out they were goats were priceless! The biggest question
asked was "Do they bite?" The other 4-H'ers, Shelby Mauch and Jodi
Zepeda, helped serve the spaghetti dinner and did a great job! Kerri,
Jodi and Shelby had enough time to enjoy the parking lot carnival as
well. Then on Saturday the 4-Hers helped serve lunch in 92 degree
heat to the Special Olympians and everyone else who participated in
the golf tournament. The kids were champs and served with smiles.
With the carnival, silent auction and the golf tournament they were
able to raise $5600.00 for the Special Olympics. We had a great time
and can't wait to help again next year! Submitted by Candy Burt.

occur for any reason during Fair activities: if an issue comes up it first
should be taken to your club leader, if it needs to go further they will
then go to the Division Superintendent, if yet still unresolved or needing further decision, they go to the Agent (Jed Smith), at which point
the Grievance Committee may be summoned to make the decision.

2009 Horse 4-H
Showmanship/Equitation Clinic
By Krisa Spiesschaert
Bonanza Manes & Reins
The Bonanza Manes & Reins 4-H Club hosted the 2009 Horse 4-H Showmanship/Equitation Clinic and the 4-H Horse Leaders paid for the arena. It
was a great day and a huge success!!
Twenty-two 4-H’ers attended and were put through a long day of hard
work with their horses. The kids were each given showmanship and equitation patterns when they signed up and the day started with showmanship.
The kids were put through a mock showmanship class and then were broke
into groups to work on individual
elements until lunch. After lunch we
came back to our mock equitation class and again broke into groups to work
on elements of patterns and specific problems each 4-H’er was having.
Each 4-H’er was entered into a drawing and throughout the day names
were drawn and each participant won a little something. We gave away nylon halters and leads, a fly mask, polo wraps, bell boots, candles, visors,
baseball caps, Grange Co-Op gift cards, a free hoof trimming, $25.00 gift
certificate for horse blanket cleaning and repair, 4-H T-shirts, travel size
shampoo and conditioners, hoof pick, body brush and a gel curry.
We had several people come with items for the tack and attire swap and
there seemed to some pretty happy people leaving with new things for
themselves or their horses. We also sold tickets for one ton of hay donated
by Steve Gorden and at the end of the day we drew the winning ticket which
belonged to Liz West. Congratulations! Thank you to Steve Gorden for his
generous donation; we sold $307.00 worth of tickets and half of that will be
given to the 4-H Horse Scholarship Fund.
Throughout the day each person that helped work with the kids was
keeping an eye out for “that one special 4-H’er” that really worked hard,
paid special attention to instruction and was dedicated to working hard. At
the end of the day we had several, so each participants name was put into a
hat and we drew our winner of the Dale Chavez silver halter; Kirstin Volk
was the winner of the silver halter and was very deserving of it, she worked
very hard. Congratulations Kirstin!
I would also like to congratulate Kylee Souders, Sadie Miller, Brielle
McKinney, Amy Sipes, Hanna Cox, Stephanie Flecken,
Carolyn Flecken,
Zack Gailey, Madison Epperly, Kristal Smith, Kyanna Rogers, Mykah Galloway, Leslie Allen, Kirstin Volk, Kelsie Golden, Veronica Turner, Peyton

not enough time to do it. If anyone has any suggestions or comments feel
