AVID Student Selection Process

In-House Student Selection Process
1. Grade Level Teams select student(s) who have academic potential based on the following:

Average to high test scores

2.0-3.5 GPA

College potential with support

Excellent citizenship

Desire and determination

Self-advocacy to enhance school performance
Meets one or more of the following criteria:
• First to attend college
• Historically underserved in four-year colleges
• Low income
• Special circumstances
2. AVID Administrator and AVID Coordinator meets to review list of potential candidates and determine
next steps.
3. Parent(s) are given an overview of the AVID program to determine interest in program.
4. All interested student(s) will complete an application available from the AVID Teacher, AVID
Coordinator or Counselor(s) in that building.
5. The student(s) will be interviewed by the AVID Student Selection Subcommittee.
6. The student(s) and parent(s) will be notified of the acceptance into the program
7. The student(s) and the parent(s) will sign an AVID Contract.
