CALENDAR UPDATES
PRINCIPAL TOWN HALL MEETING
Please join me for a Principal Town Hall Meeting. The meeting
will take place at 7:00pm prior to the PTA meeting on Tuesday,
May 3rd. Topics for consideration are how classes are formed
at Westbrook and other topics of interest to parents who attend. Come learn about how we use your input as a parent, report card grades, reading levels and other data points in order
to form classes for the following year, or share other questions of interest regarding our school.
FAMILY INFORMATION CHECKLIST
Family Information Checklist sheets have already gone home
via backpack. If you missed the BRIGHTLY colored hard copy,
an electronic copy is included with this month’s newsletter. An
important note: I do not take requests for specific teachers.
Please trust that we will consider all aspects of a child (both
personal and academic) when creating our classes. Please attend the Principal Town Hall meeting if you have questions
about this process. If your child will not return to Westbrook
next year please contact Ms. Kahn, or Mrs. McCool in the main
office so that we have this information officially, and we are
able to plan appropriately for next year’s classes.

their families as our incoming kindergarten students join our Westbrook Community of Caring. It is
not too late to enroll your child, so

PARCC TESTING FOR GRADES 3-5
GRADES 3-5 will be participating in Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) testing during the month of May. All grades are scheduled for 4 days of
reading testing and 4 days of math testing. Teachers have already sent out grade level testing calendars. We ask that you
send your child to school on time, and provide a healthy breakfast on testing dates just as you do each and every day. In
addition, please avoid non-emergency medical or dental appointments or other planned absences on those dates. Thanks
in advance for your support and cooperation. Please see the
attached flyer for general tips on how you can help your child
prepare for testing. For specific information about PARCC
testing see the MCPS website:

UPCOMING SPECIAL EVENTS
Please check the attached calendar for upcoming SPECIAL events.
Events are also posted on the
Westbrook website and reminders
come through the Listserv as well.
We are VERY BUSY during the
last weeks of school. In spite of
all the special events we continue
to focus on student learning
through the end of the school
year. Please help your child to
continue to be successful at
school by keeping a regular schedule as much as possible and getting to bed on time. As the days
grow longer it is more difficult for
many of us to get to bed on time,
FINAL REPORT CARDS
The final report cards of the year are mailed from
MCPS Central Office after the last day of school.
If you do not receive your child’s report card by June 30th,
you may call us at school, and we will ensure you get a copy.
RECESS SAFETY
We will be outside every day for recess; weather permitting.
An enjoyable recess
includes running, jumping and
climbing.
Please monitor the
footwear your
child wears to school.
Flip flops and
sandals without
backs are the
cause of many playground injuries. If your child
loves wearing
sandals, consider
sending in a
and that makes it harder to get to
school on time. A regular schedule
ALL during the school year benefits your child by helping them to
stay focused and healthy at
school.
PEP PILOT
We still have openings for neighborhood peers in our Afternoon
PEP PILOT program. Classes are
two days a week: Tuesday and
Thursday or Wednesday and Friday and are held from 12:55-3:25
