Outdoor Education Departure Packet 2015

For Parents:
Outdoor Education Preparations for CJMS 6th Graders
November 30-December 4
On Monday, November 30th, Mrs. Troupos’s students…
On Wednesday, December 2nd, Mrs. Foderaro-Guertin’s students…
…will be leaving for their Outdoor & Environment Education Program (OEEP) at the Skycroft
Conference Center in Middletown, MD.
Students may not ride their regular busses to school on their departure day due to space
limitations created by luggage. Please drop off students and luggage in the BUS parking lot
(located on Bells Mill Road) between 9:30 AM and 9:45 AM. Carpooling is highly
recommended, and it is important to share plans with your child so they know who is bringing
them to school and who is picking them up. Supervision will not be available before 9:30 AM;
therefore, students should not arrive early. All suitcases and sleeping bags should be labeled
with students’ names and given to those loading the gender-specific luggage busses. Students
will then report to the cafeteria to assigned tables for attendance.
To expedite our anticipated departure at approximately 10:00 AM, medication and the
accompanying form(s) were due to the CJMS Health Room prior to our departure. Please
remember that parents/guardians must hand deliver medications directly to the CJMS Health
Room. Questions? Call 240-406-1570.
Each student must bring a bag lunch labeled with his/her name for the first day’s lunch,
and it is to be placed in the appropriately labeled bin at drop-off. No glass containers, please.
Students will return to CJMS on Wednesday, December 2nd [or Friday, December 4th] at
approximately 1:15 PM. Children must be picked up promptly by carpools at that time. As
noted above, due to limitations on space created by luggage, students will not be permitted to
ride their regular busses home.
In case of an emergency, the phone number at Skycroft Conference Center is: (301) 676-3216
(during business hours) and (240) 401-1163 (after business hours).
Parents are asked to review behavioral expectations with their children before going to
Skycroft. All in-school CJMS behavioral expectations are in effect at Skycroft. Taking a group
of students to Outdoor Education is a tremendous responsibility for staff and parent
chaperones. Therefore, students are expected to demonstrate attentiveness, cooperation, and
positive peer and adult interactions!
ALL ABOARD FOR THIS UNIQUE AND EXCITING ADVENTURE!
