What’s happening now….
Reading/Writing – This month we are continuing our work on literary text. We will be asking and answering
questions and looking more closely at unknown words and their meanings. We have been learning all about
homonyms and also exploring new meanings for familiar words. In writing we are starting a new personal
narrative. We will be telling our stories in order, using reaction words and recalling important key details to add
into our stories. We will be focusing on editing our work for capitalization, punctuation and finger spacing.
Math – We have been working on decomposing and compositing the number 10. We have been focusing on addition
sentences that equal a total number.
Science – We are saying goodbye to our mealworms. We had so much fun learning about their habitat, external and internal
features and their life cycles. We know our zoo trip will be a great way to wrap up learning about animal life styles.
Reading/Writing- We will continue our work on reading
literary text and reading for meaning. We will really push
ourselves to ask and answer questions not only verbally about our
text but also in written form. This will help with book talks and book
reports! We will also create new personal narratives and continue to enhance our stories with key details and
reaction words.
What’s coming up?
Math- We will continue our study of the number 10. This time we will be learning how to subtract within the
number 10 as well as add to the number 10, and we will be asking and answering word problems using numbers
that total to 10. We will also review our ordinal numbers.
Social Studies: We will be exploring the topic of wants versus needs. We will focus on communication, tools
and toys, food and experiences.
