Check in with Mentoring Teacher and
complete by their completion date
Capstone Projects Deadline
May 1 (earlier if specified by Mentoring
Teacher)
The Application Process
 Fill out the Application
 Speak with a teacher that will supervise your Capstone Project
 Plan out your Capstone Project with your Mentor Teacher
 Get your Capstone Project approved by your Mentor Teacher
 Continuously check in with your Mentor Teacher for guidance throughout the
process
 Make sure you understand the requirements of your Mentor Teacher
 Complete the Capstone Project by the deadline agreed to by your and your Mentor
Teacher
Pathway Courses
 You need 3 related courses
 One “Gateway Course” CAN be a Graduation Required course
 Two “Required Pathway Courses” MUST be elective courses
 “Suggested Elective Courses” are OPTIONAL
 All courses should be based on your pathway
 Look at your Transcript as you fill this out

 The Capstone Project should utilize 21 st
Century skills necessary for your
selected career
 Capstone Projects performed outside of
class should reflect at least 25 hours of
your time. Students should maintain a
log of hours.

 Recognition by Blake High School staff and career professionals at Academic
Awards Night
 Certificate specific to Capstone Experience
 Medallion specific to the Capstone to be worn at Graduation
 Citation in graduation program and recognition from the podium at graduation
 Opportunities for further public recognition through various media outlets
including, but not limited to Eubie News, Blake Web site, and MCPS publication.
