Inside Third Grade November 3-6, 2015 Common Core Curriculum We are: Asking and answering inferential questions when referring to the text. Recognize the format of a poem, including lines, stanzas, and poetic features such as repetition, rhyme, similes, and metaphors. Identifying characteristics of realistic fiction by noticing and discussing plot elements (setting, characters, problem, main events, solution). Brainstorming ideas for a narrative story that includes characters, a setting, problem, and solution. Representing multiplication situations and products using models, pictures, arrays, and equations. Using models, pictures, and arrays to show situations where we might need to divide a group into equal parts and representing it as an equation. Observing and describing what may have caused a change in an object’s motion. Discussing how taxes are used to meet the needs of a community (schools, police, fire departments, libraries, etc.). Classifying goods and services, and explaining our decision. Things to Ask Your Child: How do you know when you need to multiply? What do you think I should ask / share with your teacher at our conference? Why? Teachers’ Corner: It was great to see those of you who were able to visit during our Walk to the Help the Homeless and holiday parties. We are looking forward to seeing all of you in the coming weeks as we have our Parent Conferences. We are always monitoring supplies, and are now noticing that some students need to restock a few things. You may wish to ask your child if they need pencils, erasers, or red grading/editing pens.
