Identifying positive and negative traits that contribute to
one’s uniqueness (We completed a Getting to Know You

Explaining criteria used for selecting literature in a variety
of genres (We discussed finding a “Just Right” book using
the Goldilock’s Strategy, drawing a simile to Goldilock’s
and the Three Bears.)

contribute to the sequence of events while reading First
Day Jitters.
Making inferences about how a character’s actions and

during, and after reading the story.
Brainstorming facts and details about an experience
we’ve had including those linked to our Personality Bag

wordless book without talking).
Identifying and explaining patterns on an addition table.
Rounding numbers to the nearest 10 using a 1-1000 chart
or number line.
Learning how to log into our Chromebooks, locate our

distributing materials and assignments, log off safely, and
correctly store/charge our computers on the cart.
Things to Ask Your Child:





How did you organize your Reading Notebooks?
How is your binder organized? What is supposed to stay
in your binder? (ex. Homework Assignment Book/Planner,
blue Home-School Folder, subject dividers, etc.)
What homework do you have tonight? How do you know
when an assignment is due? Please show me.
What is your classroom’s morning routine? Routine for
recording homework/passing out papers? Going to the
bathroom/getting drinks? Using the classroom library?
What patterns can you find on an addition table? Show
me.
Teachers’ Corner:
Last week, we sent home a yellow Emergency
Information “card” with the current information
our school has for who to contact in the event
of emergency, including phone numbers,
doctor’s names, hospital preference, and email
addresses. This yellow paper was 8 ½” x 11” in
size. If you have not already, please look over
this paper to ensure its accuracy and return it to
school. Thank you for helping to ensure that we
have the most up-to-date and accurate
information.
Each Monday, we will be sending home a red
“Monday Folder” which will include our next
newsletter, an update about your child’s
progress for the week, and some graded
papers. We ask that you look for this folder on
Mondays (or Tuesday if there is a Monday
holiday), sign the folder on the check sheet
inside, and return it with your child the next
school day. (The students will be recording this
in their planner.) This is just one of the ways we
communicate with you. Thanks for your help!
Next Tuesday, September 15th, we will be
holding our Back to School Night presentations
at Woodfield ES. We will be having the same
presentation twice, and intend to post our
presentation slide show on our website in the
following weeks. Please let us know if you have
any questions after reviewing this information.
Conference sign-ups will also be available that
night.
