Flu Vaccine Coming Soon
We are happy to announce that MnVFC 2015-16 flu vaccine will begin shipping to providers in early August. You
may receive a few smaller shipments of vaccine rather than one large shipment because different brands and
presentations become available at different times, and we need to make sure all MnVFC providers have adequate
flu vaccine early in the season. If you provided us with your email address with your flu pre-book in the spring, you
will get a confirmation email when we process your flu orders.
FluMist Delay
Medimmune announced that there will be a delay in the initial shipments of FluMist until September and that
FluMist will be arriving more slowly during the season than in the past. The delay is due to the slow growth of the
H1N1 strain which was modified to be more temperature-stable. This delay is expected to affect both public and
private sector vaccine.
This means that we will not be able to distribute as much FluMist in the early fall as we normally do. We will make
sure that we are distributing vaccine to you as soon as we receive it at our distributor.
Get Ready for Flu Season
1. Start vaccinating as soon as your 2015-16 flu vaccine arrives. Take advantage of back-to-school
appointments and other vaccination opportunities.
2. Watch for the updated 2015-16 Influenza Vaccine Information Statements, which will be available at
www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/vis. In the meantime, continue to use the 2014-15 VISs.
3. Read the Minnesota Fall Flu Guide 2015-16 when it is posted online later this month. Get an email alert
when the Flu Guide and other flu materials are updated by subscribing to the MDH Influenza Information
for Health Professionals Web pages. Go to www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/diseases/flu/hcp/index.html
and click on the red envelope.
