Update for Sites Currently Using the Replacement Method
Over the past year, we have been creating a policy for the replacement method of vaccine management that is
acceptable to the federal Vaccines for Children Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). We are
happy to report that CDC has approved our overall policy.
As part of the policy, we need to individually request approval from CDC for each organization that is using the
replacement method. CDC will review vaccine ordering and administration data (including dose-level eligibility
information) from these organizations. This is to ensure that all requirements are being met. We will contact you at least
a month before your information is submitted to CDC for review.
Organizations that are not meeting the requirements for the replacement method will not be submitted to CDC and will
need to change to the separate stock method of vaccine management.
The requirements for the replacement method are included in the MnVFC Replacement Method of Vaccine
Management Checklist. The checklist is available by going to the MnVFC website (www.health.state.mn.us/vfc) and
clicking the link for Replacement Method Sites.
If you have any questions, please contact the MnVFC program at 651-201-5522 or [email protected].
For Sites Currently Using the Separate Stock Method and Want to Use the Replacement Method
Since we will need to individually request approval for each organization that is currently using the replacement
method, we do not have the resources to move new sites onto the replacement method at this time. We will
re-evaluate our capacity to move clinics from the separate stock method to the replacement method in the summer
of 2016. Thank you for your patience.
