* Note: PADM 6240 Personnel Management is a required Core course in the MPA for students who began their MPA coursework in or after Jan 2010. Those who began their MPA coursework earlier may use it as an elective. If PADM 6240 is not available in a
semester when it is needed to finish by a student, PRST 5040 Human Resources Management (in the MPS program) may be permitted as a substitute WITH ADVISOR OR DEPT. CHAIR APPROVAL.
** Note: The MPA internship of 300 hours (six credits) may be exempted, given required documentation, for all MPA students who have at least one year of appropriate professional public sector, healthcare or nonprofit experience (contingent on approval
of the student's internship exemption application and paper). Otherwise the internship is required to receive the MPA.
***Note: Students who want to seek the MPA and a graduate certificate simultaneously must seek advising BEFORE choosing courses for the certificate (contact your advisor). They will take 3 certificate courses as their MPA electives, and receive the
certificate upon completion of the MPA. If pursuing a healthcare admin and planning certificate, an MPA student must take the following three courses as their certificate courses/MPA electives: PADM 6190; PADM 6550; and PADM 6515 (NOT PADM 6390).
If pursuing the nonprofit management certificate, students must take the following three courses as their certificate courses/MPA electives: PADM 6190 plus choice of two of: PADM 6950, PADM 6960, PADM 6970; PADM 6980 (NOT PADM 6390). Students
completing the policy certificate and the MPA must take PADM 6390; PADM 6930; and 6430 as their MPA electives/certificate courses. Students who are not also completing the MPA must take all certificate courses to complete the certificate. No student
will receive the MPA degree who has not met all applicable entrance requirements, which are different from the entrance requirements for the certificates; a student must be formally admitted to both programs to complete both programs regardless of
coursetaking.
****Note: At this time, the PA Executive Leadership Certificate is only offered in a special format to specific agency cohorts. Inquiries should be directed to department chair Dr. Rodney Stanley ([email protected]).
