Week of: May 16 - 20 First Grade Facts Reading Workshop: This week we will present our animal research projects. Students will have their last round of reading workshop choices while teachers finish up some end of the year reading assessments. Writing/Social Science: This week we will observe the changes with our seeds. We will also observe the freshwater animals (guppies and snails) in our aquariums and record our findings. Word Works: Please see the label in your child’s agenda for the skills they are working on this week. Priority Words: All the priority words have been introduced. Please practice spelling all the priority words at home throughout the week. We will be choosing five priority words from previous weeks to retest, to ensure students’ mastery. Once they have been tested on a word, they are also expected spell them correctly in their daily writing. Vocabulary: We have finished teaching all vocabulary words for the year. We will spend time reviewing words previously learned. Math: Unit 9 (3-D Shapes) Developing vocabulary to describe 3-D shapes and their attributes Comparing size, shape, and orientation of objects Matching a 3-D object to a 2-D outline of one of its faces Describing a cylinder, cone, sphere, cube, pyramid, and rectangular prism Important Dates: May 16th – 20th – Scholastic Book Fair May 26th – Field Day May 27th – Last day of school – 2:00 Dismissal
