Minnesota Department of Health Approval Process for Learning About Nutrition through Activities (LANA) Trainers Prospective LANA trainers go through the following steps: 1. Contact MDH Early Childhood Specialist (Joyce O’Meara) for information and to indicate the intention to become a LANA trainer. 2. Review the entire LANA curriculum and all supporting materials on the MDH website: www.health.state.mn.us/lana 3. Request from MDH Early Childhood Specialist a set of LANA materials, including a print curriculum manual, a folder of sample training handouts, an Extension video (Sharing Food Tasks) on DVD, a flash drive containing the curriculum and all support materials for printing (including storybooks, parent flyers, cookbook, training handouts). Review all materials. 4. View a LANA training, by means of slides with transcript and/or a 2-hour recording of a live LANA training, available on the training and materials page of the LANA website above. 5. When ready, request a LANA exam from MDH Early Childhood Specialist; complete and return it to MDH. 6. (Assuming successful completion of the exam, MDH Early Childhood Specialist sends a certificate of TOT completion to trainer.) 7. Review all LANA materials again. Plan a potential LANA training, keeping the attached Tips for LANA Trainers in mind. 8. On an ongoing basis, contact MDH Early Childhood Specialist with any questions about LANA or about delivering a LANA training. At any point in this process, preferably earlier than later, join the Registry of the Minnesota Center for Professional Development (www.mncpd.org) and begin the process of becoming an approved trainer. Contact Joyce O’Meara at [email protected] if you need help with this. Revised on 2/11/2014
