Trainings Approved for SHIP Child Care Strategies These are the current trainings that meet MDH’s criteria for use in SHIP 4. All are approved by the Minnesota Center for Professional Development and are offered at various times through Child Care Aware, the child care resource and referral system, by way of in-person trainings and/or online through Eager-to-Learn. Trainings of Trainers have been or will be offered for some of these trainings for those who have been approved as trainers by the MNCPD. Most can also be applied toward Parent Aware; search for individual courses on www.developtool.org for confirmation. Nutrition Learning About Nutrition through Activities (LANA) (2 hours in person; 12 hours through Eager-to-Learn) Let’s Move Child Care – Nutrition for All ages (includes nutrition, healthy beverages and infant feeding/breastfeeding) (3 hours) CATCH Early Childhood – Healthy Eating (3 hours) Farm to Child Care (4 to 5 hours) Tipping the Scales – Nutrition and Obesity Prevention (3 hours in person; 12 hours through Eager-to-Learn) Early Sprouts: Cultivating Healthy Food Choices in Young Children (3 hours) Breastfeeding Supporting Breastfeeding in Child Care Programs (2 hours in person; 12 hours through Eager-to-Learn) Let’s Move Child Care – Nutrition for All ages (includes nutrition, healthy beverages and infant feeding/breastfeeding) (3 hours) Creating a Breastfeeding Friendly Environment (2 hours); contact Pa Shasky, [email protected] Physical Activity I am Moving I am Learning (IMIL) (4 hours) or individual modules: o Moving with the Brain in Mind (2 hours) o Body Language (2 hours) o Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA) (2 hours) o Opportunity Knocks: Reversing Current Obesity Trends (2 hours) o I am Moving I am Learning – all modules (32 hours through Eager-to-Learn) Let’s Move Child Care – Physical Activity and Screen Time (2 or 3 hours) CATCH Early Childhood – Physical Activity (3 hours) Tipping the Scales – Obesity Prevention & Physical Activity (3 hours in person; 12 hours through Eager-to-Learn) Nutrition AND Physical Activity Let’s Move Child Care – both nutrition and physical activity modules (6 hours) Tipping the Scales – Promoting Nutrition and Physical Activity in Early Childhood Education Settings (6 hours in-person; 12 hours through Eager to Learn) Encouraging Adventurous Tasters and Confident Movers (3 hours); contact Krystle McNeal, [email protected] NOTE: Tipping the Scales-Nutrition trainings are widely available and some are offered by trainers who speak the languages of several of our target populations. Note, however, that the Tipping the Scales trainings are very basic and are most suitable for providers who have very little knowledge of nutrition, physical activity or obesity prevention. Nutrition, Breastfeeding, and Physical Activity Twist and Sprout! Healthy food and active fun in family child care programs (3 hours) NOTE: Available by contract with Providers Choice. Since their staffing has recently changed, verify that their new trainers have been approved by MNCPD before reaching an agreement. Grantees can request MDH approval for another curriculum or program that they would like to train child care providers to use. This could be another approved training or one created by the grantee and approved by the MNCPD. Please contact the MDH SHIP Early Childhood Specialist to discuss a review process.
