Trainings Approved for SHIP 4 Child Care Strategies

Trainings Approved for SHIP Child Care Strategies
These are the current trainings that meet MDH’s criteria for use in SHIP 4. All are approved by
the Minnesota Center for Professional Development and are offered at various times through
Child Care Aware, the child care resource and referral system, by way of in-person trainings
and/or online through Eager-to-Learn. Trainings of Trainers have been or will be offered for
some of these trainings for those who have been approved as trainers by the MNCPD. Most can
also be applied toward Parent Aware; search for individual courses on www.developtool.org for

NOTE: Tipping the Scales-Nutrition trainings are widely available and some are offered by
trainers who speak the languages of several of our target populations. Note, however, that the
Tipping the Scales trainings are very basic and are most suitable for providers who have very
little knowledge of nutrition, physical activity or obesity prevention.
Nutrition, Breastfeeding, and Physical Activity
 Twist and Sprout! Healthy food and active fun in family child care programs (3 hours)
NOTE: Available by contract with Providers Choice. Since their staffing has recently changed,
verify that their new trainers have been approved by MNCPD before reaching an
agreement.
Grantees can request MDH approval for another curriculum or program that they would like to
train child care providers to use. This could be another approved training or one created by the
grantee and approved by the MNCPD. Please contact the MDH SHIP Early Childhood Specialist
to discuss a review process.
