Parent Letter Introducing Let s Taste Kits

Dear Parents,
Today your child has brought home a take home activity kit called Let’s Taste. The
kit contains a vegetable with suggestions and ideas for tasting at home. We
encourage you to experiment with the vegetable and taste it together with your
child. The vegetables you will be receiving in the Let’s Taste kits have been
available to your child for lunch and snack time. We have also been doing some
tasting and simple cooking activities with these vegetables.
These activities are part of an exciting program called the LANA Preschool
Program. The goal of the program is to help preschool-aged children develop
healthy eating habits and learn to taste, eat and enjoy more fruits and vegetables.
Studies show that people who eat more fruits and vegetables have a lower risk of
diseases such as cancer and heart disease and obesity. Helping young children
develop healthy habits early in their life can help them have a healthier life many
years down the road.
The goal of the Let’s Taste activity kits home is to offer an opportunity for you to
spend time exploring fruits and vegetables with your child in a fun way. Did you
know that it could take 20 more opportunities to taste a new food for children to
accept it? This opportunity at home, along with opportunities to taste and eat the
fruits and vegetables with LANA, will all help your child learn to enjoy a variety of
fruits and vegetables.
In the Let’s Taste kit you will find a vegetable, tips for tasting with your child at
home, easy recipes and facts about the vegetable. Have fun sampling some new
foods and helping your child build healthy eating habits!
Sincerely,
