Using the Great Trays Menu Templates STEP ONE: THE HEADER The header with the pictures of the vegetables includes placeholders for the month, your school or district name, and the grade level. Replace the generic text with your information. Simply highlight the text, delete it and type away! STEP TWO: BLANK CALENDAR BOXES Insert the correct date for each calendar box. If the month starts on a day other than a Monday, you will have some blank boxes. These boxes are currently filled with generic text for alternative entrees, milk choices and salad bar options. Replace as much of this with information specific to your school and delete what doesn’t apply. Don’t need any of that information? Consider leaving them blank to keep clutter to a minimum or adding a short Fun Food Fact from the Great Trays website, information about your Farm to School program or solicit volunteers for a student discussion group. STEP THREE: CALENDAR BOXES For each day of the week, there is space for two entrees and three side dishes. Replace the generic text with your awesome menu! Also remember to use enticing adjectives to describe your menu items. Drawing a blank on name ideas? Check out the Great Trays Fun Food Facts sheet for inspiration. STEP FOUR: HOME‐SIZED RECIPE BOX The second page of the menu includes space to feature a home‐sized recipe. Great Trays will provide a baker’s dozen of home‐sized versions of popular school‐tested recipes. Find them on the Program Promotions section of the Great Trays website under “Share”. These will be available after October 2011. You may also use this space for announcements, articles or requests for volunteers. STEP FIVE: PAYMENT INFORMATION Replace the generic text on the lower left corner of the second page with payment information specific to your school. STEP SIX: MISSION STATEMENT Replace the generic text in the bottom center box on the second page with your contact information. Insert your school or district logo in the space provided. STEP SEVEN: FUN FOOD FACT This is your last chance to engage your audience with food trivia, jokes or nutrition facts. Replace the text in the lower right box on the second page with a Fun Food Fact from your own operation or draw from Great Trays ideas. Find the Fun Food Facts on the Program Promotions page of the Great Trays website under “Share”.
