Log onto the CUNY Portal at www.cuny.edu. 2. Click on "eSIMS" listed under the "Applications/Resources" list. 3. Click on "REGISTRATION" and select the Semester. 4. Enter the four-‐digit code for each of the course(s) you have selected then click on "Submit." 5. Click on "Schedule" and select the Semester to review your recent Registration Schedule. IMPORTANT: Your Registration is not complete until you pay your bill. For instructions on how to pay your bill, visit the bursar's web page. You can download the application from the Undergraduate Admissions website. Health Requirements -‐ If you plan to register for more than 5.9 credits, you will need proof of immunization. Visit the Health Services website for additional information. o Immunizations for Measles, Mumps and Rubella -‐ Provide proof of immunization to the Health Services Office, Room 307, North Building or fax to 212-‐650-‐3254. o Meningococcal Disease Form -‐ Students will be prompted to complete this form prior to registration. CUNY Proficiency/Academic Skills Assessment -‐ Students must demonstrate mastery in the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics. Please click this link for more information. o Degree Students -‐ Visit the above link for more information. o Non-Degree Students -‐ You may attempt up to 12 credits without taking the CUNY Skills Assessment Tests, unless a placement test is required for a particular course. However, the test is required once 12 credits have been attempted. Please visit the above website for more information. Create a CUNY Portal account to register for classes. o Log onto www.cuny.edu for more information. Pre‐Requisite Course Work -‐ Some courses have pre-‐requisite requirements that must be successfully completed before registering. You may find prerequisites for each course by visiting the online catalog. The Office of Admissions does not evaluate prior college course work for students in a non-‐degree classification. In this case, course approval must be obtained from the individual academic department. For a complete list of academic departments and their contact information, visit Departments and Programs webpage. Only the academic department has the authority to grant permission into courses requiring prerequisites. It is a cluster of introductory level courses that creates an individual community of 22 students. Each block section, or course cluster, has a general theme, and each course within the block section satisfies one or more college requirements that have scheduled a cohort of classes with a Student Services Advisor. The same groups of students meet for the same set of classes throughout the semester. For assistance in registering for a block course, please speak with an academic advisor located in Student Services, Room 1119 East. SEEK Students should contact a SEEK Advisor, Room 1013 East. • Registration Date & Time -‐ All students are assigned a Registration date and time. You may view your registration appointment by logging in the CUNY Portal and clicking on eSIMS. • • Stops -‐ A stop is a block placed on a student record. Make sure all stops are cleared or you will be unable to register. A Degree Student is a student who is interested in earning a degree and wishes to enroll in college credit bearing courses relating to career advancement, preparation for graduate school or other special interests. • A Non Degree Student/ Non‐ Matriculated Students is a student who is not interested in earning a degree but wishes to enroll in college credit bearing courses relating to career advancement, preparation for graduate school or other special interests. Please see an Admissions counselor by visiting the Welcome Center, Room 100 North. o Students Who Qualify for Non‐Degree/Non‐Matriculated Status (For more information on your status, contact the Admissions Office.) v Incoming Permit -‐ CUNY college students in degree attendance at other CUNY colleges who wishes to take courses "on permit." An approved permit must be obtained from the Registrar of the home college and submitted to the Hunter College (host college) Registrar in Room 217 North. Login the CUNY portal to apply for an ePermit. v Visiting -‐ Students currently attending non-‐CUNY colleges who wish to take courses at Hunter College. For more information speak with an Admissions counselor in the Welcome Center, Room 100 North. v Post Baccalaureate -‐ Students who have completed the bachelor's degree or higher and wish to take undergraduate courses. Qualified High School/College Now -‐ students, including students participating in College Now programs -‐ Students attending New York City Public schools may acquaint themselves with undergraduate life by participating in Hunter College Now. For more information speak with an Admissions counselor in the Welcome Center, Room 100 North. v Senior Citizens -‐ New York State residents 60 years of age or older may audit undergraduate courses on a tuition free, space -‐available basis. Auditors receive neither grades nor academic credit for their courses. Individuals enrolling under this program pay fees totaling $70 each semester. I don’t have a CUNY Portal account, how do I start one? a) To create your Portal ID, go to www.cuny.edu and click on the "Portal Log‐in" link at the bottom of the left‐hand menu bar. b) On the following page, click "Register Now" on the right side of the screen. c) On the following page, click "Student." d) The following page will ask for your last name, your Social Security number, and your birth date to validate you as a CUNY student. Click "Next" after you've entered the above information. e) On the next page, you'll be asked to click "Confirm" if your information is correct. f) On the page following the confirmation, you will be asked to choose a username & password, and record what email address will be associated with this Portal ID. (We strongly recommend that you use your Hunter NetID as your Portal ID username; and your Hunter email address as your listed email address.) g) Once you have filled out the Username, Password, Password Confirmation, and Email spaces, click the "Save" button and you're done! You will be able to use your Portal ID immediately. 2. I have a CUNY Portal account, so why can’t I register? o You may need to change or update you profile: v If you can log into the Portal and you can go to eSIMS, but you cannot register for classes, then follow the instructions on the ICIT webpage on how to change your primary college/role and update your profile: www.hunter.cuny.edu/icit/help‐docs/cuny‐portal‐primary‐college‐role‐walkthrough. v If you can log into the Portal, but you don't have a link to eSIMS, then follow the instructions on the ICIT webpage on how to activate your "Student portal": www.hunter.cuny.edu/icit/help‐docs/cuny‐portal‐id‐ walkthrough. 3. It tells me I have a stop(s) on my record, what do I do? o This is often an issue related to payments. Follow the directions given on the screen and visit the appropriate department. (A stop is a block placed on a student record. Make sure all stops are cleared or you will be unable to register.) 4. Why can’t I select the current semester to register? o New Students, visit the Admissions Office (Room 203 North)/Graduate Admissions (Room 223 North). Returning Students, please visit the One Stop (Room 217 North). 5. Would if I need assistance selecting courses? o Contact your academic department or visit an advisor. 6. Where do I go if I need to obtain permission to register for a course? o Speak with the appropriate department for further advisement regarding prerequisites, course closures, major declarations, and all other course permission issues. 7. Would if my courses were not successfully processed and I received an error message? o Read the information on the screen and either select a different course or visit the appropriate academic department for more information. 8. Why do I have pending credits that have not been posted to my record? o Visit the appropriate department for more information. 9. Why is my session timed out? o Plan your course selections prior to entering eSIMS to avoid disconnection. If you exceed the time allotted, the system will automatically disconnect. Once you time out, processed drops and adds will be retained, but unsaved requests will be lost and you will have to log onto the CUNY Portal again. How do I Add/Drop/Replace a course? a. To add a course, select the "Add" tab and enter the newly selected course. b. To replace a course you previously registered for with a newly selected course, use the "Replace" tab and enter the new course number under the old course (applicable charges will be charged to your account if you drop and add a course instead of replacing the course/s). c. If you would like to drop a course and you are not replacing it with a new course, click the "Drop" tab. 11. How do I register for more than 17.5 credits? o You can register for up to 17.5 credits (per fall & spring semesters) & 7.5 (per summer session) (Graduate students visit your academic department for a listing of credit limits). To register for more than 17.5 credits you must complete and submit a "Request for Credit Overload" form. You can download the form online from this link (PDF) or obtain it from Student Services (Room 1119 East). Graduate students must obtain permission from their Divisional/Academic Dean.. 12. How do I know if my selected courses are TAP eligible? o If you are a matriculated student, please ensure that you are registered for a minimum of 12 credits (fall/spring semester) & 6 credits (summer semester). You should also confirm that you have selected at least 12 course credits (fall/spring semester) & 6 credits (summer semester) that are TAP applicable.
