Gaithersburg Book Festival—City of Gaithersburg The 2012 Children’s Village is a big part of the Gaithersburg Book Festival on May 19th! The Children’s Village offers something for parents and children of all ages. Visit the Jim Henson Children’s Pavilion where books will be brought to life for our youngest readers with presentations and book signings by selected children’s authors from across the country. One of the many children’s authors presenting at the festival this year is Michael Buckley who will discuss his 9 th and final book in the Sisters Grimm Series: The Council of Mirrors. In this final volume Sabrina, Daphne, and their family and friends, must face off against the master to decide the fate of Ferryport Landing- and the world. You will want to get a good seat to hear about this last chapter of The Sisters Grimm series. The Gaithersburg Book Festival is excited to welcome back Tom Algelberger with his newest book, Darth Paper Strives Back: An Origami Yoda Book. If you have avid Star Wars fans and origami crafters in your home, they will breeze through this book in one day and make little Darth Vadors to bring with them to the festival. The Festival will also offer something special for young animal lovers and history buffs. Leah Taylor, the author of The Adventure of Oreo and Algonquin: The White House Tour (Volume 1) will speak and sign her books while her pony, Oreo, grazes on the grounds of City Hall, has children brush her, and enjoys eating a carrot or two with her fans. Joining us once again will be Arianna Ross of Story Tapestries with a storytelling performance and fun activities at her booth all day long. And rumor has it that The Cat in the Hat has RSVP’d yes to the festival again this year! Stay tuned for more developments on activities, writing workshops, and more in next month’s newsletter! Mr. Sullivan would always begin the evening by letting his audience and television viewers know, ―We have a really big show tonight.‖ Well, we will have a bigger show planned for our Strawberry Knoll students and families on Thursday, March 29, 2012 when we host, ―Love Your Heart, Love Your Art Knight‖ starting at 6:30 p.m. As in previous years, students and their families will have the chance to participate in numerous cardiovascular building activities held in the gym. Families can then cool-down, stroll through the Knoll, and admire student artwork. Every student will have his/her artwork displayed. Pizza will be on sale for your dinner convenience. ―Love Your Heart― Program is as follows: 6:30—7:15 p.m.—Pre K, K, 1st and 2nd grades 7:20—8:15 p.m.—3rd, 4th and 5th grades only.
