Teachers are on a rotating schedule, and not all classes are displayed every week. We have adjusted the schedule this year to allow for many more, if not all, students’ writing to be posted during the year. I invite you to read the wall regularly to see some fabulous writing! Congratulations to the students whose writing has been highlighted this week! It is also a great idea for parents to come and visit as the children often forget what is theirs. Parents will be visiting tomorrow and/or Monday to organize the clothes on tables in the main hallway so kids/parents can “shop” for what they’ve lost. EMAILING ABSENCES – If you are emailing your child’s teacher about his/her absence, please copy in [email protected] (our attendance secretary) and [email protected] (our health technician). REUNIFICATION PLANS – In the unlikely event that Stone Mill has to dismiss after regular school hours or in another unusual manner, we have developed a plan of how to reunite parents and their children in a safe and orderly manner. This reunification plan will enable us to account for every child’s departure while enabling parents and/or other parentally approved adults to retrieve the children from the school. This is the drill we are running Monday at 2. The front doors of our school will be locked and arrow signs will lead parents to the side entrance of the All-Purpose Room (APR) located on the Quietwood Drive side of the building. Tables will be set up in the APR for parents to request their children. Fifteen parents at a time will be allowed into the APR. Adults picking up their own and/or others’ children MUST indicate on a sign out sheet who they are taking – i.e., Bobby Smith signed out to Mrs. Hoi, and each adult will receive a sheet of paper indicating who they are taking. All adults’ identification will be checked against the school emergency forms. Mrs. Hoi (parent) Bobby Smith Jeff Hoi Cindy Loo Who Personnel at tables in the APR will radio to classrooms via walkie talkies. Parents will exit the APR, reunite with the children inside the building, and be exited through a side door. MCPS will still arrange bus service, and staff members will maintain cards listing which children are on which buses. Between the bus boarding cards and the car transport list, we will have an accounting of how every student left the school. We realize that out-of-the-ordinary dismissals could be stressful, but know that by following the plan, everyone will get home safely. Thanks in advance for working with us! For Monday’s drill, it is just practice and our regular dismissal will be at the usual time in the usual manner. COOKIE “EXCHANGE” – Thanks to all of our volunteer bakers for helping out for the cookie “exchange” (really cookie gift to the teachers ). We really appreciate all your cookies! They were delicious and were truly appreciated by all!! PICKING UP CHILDREN – As the weather gets colder, if your child is in car circle, please try to be on time. The children get quite uncomfortable standing on concrete in the blowing wind for 20 or so minutes. School dismisses at 3:50. Thanks for being on time! WARM WISHES – The Stone Mill staff feels so amazingly lucky to contribute to such a fabulous community. Thanks for all you do for us and to make your children respectful, responsible, and eager to learn. Have a wonderful Winter break, and we look forward to working with everyone in the New Year!
