Second Grade Shark Shout
Students will compare and
contrast two or more
versions of the folktale, Little
Red Riding Hood.
Students will acknowledge
differences in the points of
view of characters by
speaking in different voices.
Students will distinguish
shades of meaning among
related adjectives and verbs
(synonyms).
Students will describe that
air is a substance that
surrounds us and contains
such things as oxygen,
water vapor, pollen, and
dust.
Students will brainstorm
causes of air pollution.
Students will continue
gathering information
about healthy eating
habits with a focus on
fruits, vegetables, and
grains.
Students will continue
writing an informative
paragraph about healthy
eating habits.
Students will explain how
democratic skills and
attitudes are associated
with being a responsible
citizen.
Students will identify
people, symbols, poems,
or songs and explain the
ideals they represent.
Students will apply
strategies to add and
subtract with basic facts.
Students will add and
subtract mentally to find
100/10 more or 100/10 less.
Students will connect skipcount to adding and
subtracting 10 and 100
within 1000.
The first Words Their
Way Test (Spelling) is
on October 9th. It will
cover sorts 1A and 1B,
as well as rhyming
words and words that
fit the pattern. Be sure
to help your child
practice!

The second graders have been doing a great job
learning about the water cycle. The weather was
most cooperative! Be sure to ask your child to
teach you the song, “Water Travels in a Cycle”.
