Second Grade Shark Shout
Students will identify the main
purpose of an informative
text, including what the
author wants to answer,
explain, and describe.
Students will use various text
features to locate key facts or
information in a text
efficiently.
Students will use glossaries
and dictionaries to determine
the meaning of words.
Students will write an
opinion piece about a
favorite meal and then
write it in the form of a
friendly letter.
Students will strengthen
their writing by revising and
editing.
Students will use commas
in the date, greeting, and
closing of a friendly letter.
Students will identify and
describe natural features
on Earth with a focus on
regions in Maryland.
Students will explain how
democratic skills and
attitudes are associated
with being a responsible
citizen.
Students will describe the
natural features of the
ocean floor and
understand that it is land
covered by water.
Students will recognize and
describe how making
choices and decisions
affects self, family, and
community.
Students will identify good
deeds.
Students will draw bar
graphs and picture graphs
to represent data.
Students will solve word
problems based on
information presented in
graphs.
Students will apply
strategies to add and
subtract within 20.
Math Night will be held on
Thursday, October 22
from 6:00 to 7:30. It is a
wonderful opportunity for
adults and children to
gather together to enjoy
a variety of math games.
There will be a raffle and
lots of resources to take
home. Please come
celebrate with us!
Our mission is clear and the
possibilities are endless!
Please check on your child’s
supplies. Pencils with erasers
are going fast. I guess it’s
from all of our hard work!
A notice came home today
about the Harvest Festival.
It should only be returned if
your child will go to that
party instead of staying with
us in Homeroom. Thanks.

Our second graders are doing a great job of
organizing data into graphs. If you come across a
chart or graph in a newspaper, magazine, or even at
work, please show it to your child. You can even
have them send it in to share with the rest of the class!
