Second Grade Shark Shout
Students will explain how
specific images contribute to
and clarify a text.
Students will ask and answer
questions to demonstrate
understanding of key details in

Students will use figurative
language (personification,
onomatopoeia, metaphor, and
simile) to create an image.
Students will write an
informative/explanatory text
which introduces a topic and
uses facts to develop points.

Students will strengthen their
writing by revising and editing
with peers and adults.
Students will identify and
record observable properties
of the moon over time.

Students will gather and
interpret information about
the past from an informational
source or biography.
Students will share observable
changes in the growth and
development of Painted Lady
caterpillars.

Students will identify,
sequence, and describe the
stages in the life of a Painted
Lady caterpillar.
HOMEROOM
Students will apply strategies to
solve subtraction problems within
1,000 which include decomposing
from tens to ones and/or
hundreds to tens.
Students will use the relationship
between addition and
subtraction to subtract a 3-digit
number from a 3-digit number.
Students will apply strategies to
mentally add and subtract
within 20.
Summer Camp Opportunity
The Amazing Science Discovery Camp, offered
through the University of Maryland’s Physics
Department, is a one week summer camp for
students entering grades 3-5 with an interest in
exploring their physical world. Each day of the
camp is filled with exciting experiments,
interesting lessons, educational
demonstrations, and more. Activities engage
students in building interest, knowledge, and
appreciation in STEM fields.
For: Rising 3rd, 4th, 5th graders
Dates: August 1 - 5, 2016
Cost: $225

Positive Notes…
The second graders did a great job on the poetry writing
assignments. The cinquains, concrete poems, and haikus that
they wrote are wonderful. Our students worked hard to
create an image and speak in a poetic voice. Way to go!!!
