Weekly Email 9.18.15 Dear Families, What a wonderful week we have had! Fall is in the air and we are into our school routines. Take a look at what we are doing next week! Reading: We will continue to use Kevin Henkes books to retell stories using the 5 finger method (characters, setting, beginning, middle, end). We will also ask and answer questions about the stories. When reading at home use the 5 finger method to help reinforce this. Writing: Last week we wrote our narrative as a class. This week we will use all of the things that we learned to write our very own narrative! We will focus on using uppercase letters where appropriate, spaces between our words, and punctuation at the end of every sentence. We will also use transition words (first, next, last) and write a closing sentence. Math: We will continue to use Base 10 blocks, digi blocks, and drawing to represent 10’s and 1’s in 2 digit numbers. We will also identify these representations as being greater than or less than another representation. Ex: 32 13 Science/Social Studies: We will discuss and compare ways that living things use their bodies and behavior to get the things necessary for them to live. How can you help at home? · Use the information in this email to ask your child questions about the books that we read · Practice sounding out words while writing · Read with your child nightly! · Your child may be coming home with Word Wall Words to work on. Please be sure to practice their unknown words, but it is important that they are able to not only read the words, but correctly spell them when writing also! Important Reminders: · There will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, September 23. · If you have not sent in a family photo, please do so! Have a fantastic weekend!
