Dear Families,
We have had an exciting week! Thank you for joining us for Open House and Breakfast with
Dads, and for supporting the Book Fair!
There will be no school tomorrow. We look forward to seeing your students back at school
on Monday!
Math Night is right around the corner! Please join us at Stonegate on Thursday, October 22
from 6:00-7:30 PM for a fun-filled night of math exploration. All students who attend will go
home with a free math homework pass!! We hope you can make it! All students must be
accompanied by an adult.
Here’s what we will be learning next week:
Reading:
We will continue our study of informational texts as we read and discuss books such as Eva the
Beekeeper, All about Food Chains, and Fins, Wings, and Legs. In addition to identifying what we can
learn from both the text and the photographs, we will ask questions before, during, and after
reading. Our differentiated Words Their Way groups will begin as well. Students will be working on
spelling patterns in small groups.
Writing:
Our animal research continues as we transition into researching and writing about an animal of
choice. We will be using what we have learned about informational writing to include an opening
sentence that will “hook” the reader, at least three facts about an animal, and a closure sentence.
Math:
We will continue to solve word problems involving both addition and subtraction. Towards the end of
the week we will begin learning all about graphs. We will collect, organize, display, and interpret
data in pictographs and bar graphs through the end of the week and into the following week.
Science/Social Studies:
In science we will continue our study of omnivores, herbivores, and carnivores. In Social Studies we
will begin learning about a variety of American symbols including the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty
Bell, and the American Flag.
