Weekly Email 12.11.15 Dear Families, We hope you had a great week and enjoyed the warm weather! Interims came home today- please check your child’s folder! Spirit Week is next week! Please see attached for the different spirit days. Monday is Winter Hat Day! Here is what we will be learning next week: Reading: We are switching gears to informational text for the remainder of the marking period. We will be reading a variety of books on transportation. Students will be working on identifying the main topic and retelling key details. They will also be using illustrations and key details to describe key ideas. Writing: We will be working on narrative writing next week. We will sequence the events of a school day and then use our sequence chart to write about the day. Students will be adding details to the events. Math: In math we will be working on addition and subtraction fluency. Students demonstrate fluency in math by solving addition and subtraction equations and word problems using multiple strategies. They also ask questions and explain how they solved a problem during math discussions. Science/Social Studies: In social studies we will begin our study of the past. We will examine photographs to compare similar images from the past and present. We will also classify events as belonging to the past or present. In science we will continue our study of magnets. How can you help at home? Use the information in this email to ask your child questions about the books that we read and the topics that we study. Encourage your child to retell weekend activities, focusing on details of what happened first, next, then, and last. Talk to your children about how objects have changed from past to present. If you have old phones, cameras, etc. explore them with your children! Read with your child nightly!
