Welcome to Head Start!
Student Day
Our student day is 10 AM to 1:25 PM. If you
are dropping off or picking up your child, please
meet us promptly at those times by the tree in
front of the side front door. If you arrive before
10 AM, please plan to wait with your child on
the benches until 10.
Buses
We have two wonderful bus drivers-Ms. Parnell
(6103) and Mr. Frederick (6114). Please keep
them happy by being early for your child’s bus
stop times. If someone else will be picking up
your child, please let me and the drivers know.
Specials
We have a special class every day from 10:1510:35. Below is our special schedule. Please
note that you will need to send your child in
sneakers on Fridays for P.E. and you may want
to send them in clothes that can get messy on
Wednesdays for Art.
Monday-Music
Tuesday-Speech
Wednesday-Art
Thursday-Media
Friday-P.E.
Breakfast and Lunch
We eat breakfast and lunch together in the
classroom every day. If your schedule allows,
you are welcome to join us for lunch from
12:15-12:55. No outside food is permitted. If
you wish to send your child a snack because he
or she goes to daycare after school, please make
sure they know to keep it in their backpack
while at school.
Folders
Folder day for Head Start will be on
Wednesdays. Please check for any papers that
need to be completed and returned and remove
any informational papers promptly so that
papers don’t get lost in the backpack. We will
also send home a classroom library book in the
folder. You may read this book with your child
and then send it back to school in the folder.
Please keep the folder in your child’s backpack
so that it doesn’t get lost. We don’t have extra
folders to replace missing folders this year.
Sick Days
If your child needs to miss school because they
are sick or have a doctor’s appointment, please
send in a note when they return. Without a note,
the absence is recorded as unexcused.
Calendar
There are a number of half days on the school
calendar. Since we are already a half day, what
does that mean for us? Good question! Our
students will have NO SCHOOL on half days! If
there is a 2 hour delay for snow, we also have no
school. In addition to half days, there are many
holidays and professional days on the calendar
as well as another week of home visits in
February that will affect us. For your reference, I
have attached a copy of the school calendar with
important dates for Head Start noted. Any day
with an X on it is a NO SCHOOL day for Head
Start students.
Field Trip to the Farm
Thursday, October 15th, 2015
Our first field trip of the year will be to Butler’s
Orchard to pick pumpkins and visit with farm
animals. All parents and younger siblings are
welcome to attend for free, so put it on your
calendar now! For this field trip and for the zoo
field trip on Friday, May 6th, we will extend our
daily schedule to allow sufficient time for the
trips. Please arrange to bring your child to
school by 9:30 AM and pick them up at 1:45
PM. There will be no regular school buses on
those two days because of this extended
schedule, so please let me know if you will need
assistance getting your child to and from school
on those days. Also, if you are willing to pick up
or drop off other students on either of those
days, please let me know so we can coordinate
getting everyone here and home again for our
wonderful trip! We will have a bus for the trip
itself.
Love,
Ms. B. and Ms. John
