Your Kindergarten children are adjusting well to their school routines. Here is
some of what your children will be working on during the month of October.
Math
Students will:
• count a group of objects.
• count one more/one less when given a set of
objects to identify.
• compare quantities (amounts): use the words
more/greater, less/fewer or equal to/same as.
• represent numbers in different ways: numeral
form (written e.g., 5), pictures, objects.
• subitize: quickly recognize small groups of objects
without having to count (e.g., dice, dominoes).
• sort and classify objects.
Writing
Students will:
 practice upper and lowercase letter
formation while working with words.
 write and draw about familiar people,
places, things, and events.
 add details to drawings and
descriptions.
Science
Students will:
 describe changes in the weather such
as wind, temperature, and
precipitation.
 describe how changes in the weather
affect our choices of clothing and our
daily activities.
 identify and use tools to measure and
record weather conditions (e.g.,
temperature, precipitation, wind
Reading
Students will:
 identify the front of the book, back of the book,
and the title page.
 describe the relationship between illustrations and
the text.
 ask and answer questions about unknown words in
informational texts.
 demonstrate understanding of spoken words,
syllables, letter names, and sounds.
 use beginning, middle, and ending sounds in
speaking, reading, and writing.



change beginning letter sounds to create
rhyming words (sit, fit, kit).
break down words into smaller parts (c-a-t).

Matemáticas
Lectura
Los estudiantes:
 contarán un grupo de objetos.
 contarán uno más o uno menos del grupo dado

o en forma de número (escrito, por ejemplo 5),

Los estudiantes:
 identificarán la portada, la contraportada y la
página del título de un libro.
 describirán la relación entre las ilustraciones y el
texto.
 harán y contestarán preguntas sobre palabras
desconocidas del texto informativo.
 demostrarán comprensión de palabras habladas,
sílabas, nombres de las letras y sonidos.
 utilizarán las iniciales, medio y el fin de las
palabras al hablar, leer y escribir.
 cambiarán la primera letra (sonido) de una palabra
para crear palabras que riman (sit, fit, kit).
Escritura
Los estudiantes:
 practicarán escribiendo las letras mayúsculas y
minúsculas correctamente al escribir palabras.
 escribirán y dibujarán sobre personas lugares y
eventos.
