Beginning in MP3, Center students will delve into a study of immigration. The CPHG student
anthology - From There to Here: The Immigrant Experience - allows students to explore and
develop a deeper understanding of immigration in America. Students will read poems, essays,
short stories, dramas, and analyze visual texts as well as engage in shared inquiry discussions, write
opinion pieces, critique political cartoons, and analyze an immigration timeline. Additionally,
students will read an immigration novel and create a journal representing the journey of an
immigrant – an immigrant they’ll impersonate during our Wax Museum in March (date TBD).

In 4-5 Compacted Math, students will use a variety of strategies to fluently and efficiently add and
subtract multi-digit numbers, multiply and divide whole numbers, and solve multi-step word
problems including those involving volume. In Grade 4 Math, the focus on fractions will continue.
Students will use concrete and pictorial strategies to identify equivalent fractions, and compare,
order, add and subtract fractions. Students may enjoy playing math games on the following

Happy February! Have we left the January snows behind? We hope you enjoyed the extra time
with your child and were able to engage in fun family activities during our snow days. February
will be a great month of learning and will include a celebration of Valentine’s Day.

Our Valentine’s Day party will be held on the afternoon of Friday, February 12th. Class lists have already been distributed so students
may begin preparing their valentine cards. We very much appreciate the parents who are helping to organize this event and also
extend our thanks to the parents who will support them.
