Dear Montgomery Knolls Families,
First, a big thank you to those who attended Back-to-School
Night on Sept. 15th. It was a pleasure meeting so many of our
MKES families and sharing with you information about our new
school year. I am thrilled and humbly proud of our MKES staff.
Every one of them put a tremendous amount of planning into
making sure you had an informative evening. Thanks to those who
took the time to complete our feedback card. From the feedback you
provided, I think we did attain our goal. Because we are constantly
trying to improve, we will reflect on what we can do to make the
BTSN even better next year. This is vital information to help us
continually improve on our service to you. Stop by the front office,
pick up and complete a feedback card. We appreciate your input.
Next, after clarifying information from Montgomery County and
communicating with our PTA leadership, our school volunteer
training sessions have been postponed. At this time, all school
volunteers are welcome to start volunteering as planned, whether in
the classroom, at an event, or on a field trip. Contact your child’s
teacher. No training is necessary at this time, but stay tuned for
information about a school-based volunteer orientation later this
fall. Thank You.
Lastly, our students are settling in nicely to the new classroom, a
new teacher, and to our expectations of them. The curriculum 2.0
implementation is increasing in rigor and we expect our boys and
girls to rise to the challenge. As usual, if there are any concerns that
you may have, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher. I can
assure you, your concerns will be addressed.
Let us know how we can help you!

Visitors
Saturday School
We welcome all visitors to our building; however,
for the safety of students, we ask that all visitors
report to the main office, sign in, and receive a
visitor badge. This will indicate to our students
and staff that you are a “safe” person in our
building. Even if you visit often, please wear a
badge each time. If you are bringing a “forgotten”
item to your child (for example, homework,
lunch), please bring the item to the office and we
will make sure that your child receives it. To
minimize interruptions to our instructional
programming, please do not go directly to the
classroom. To assist us in maintaining a safe and
secure environment for our students and staff, all
parents and visitors must report to the front office
to begin their visit.
MCPS is proud to announce the continuation of the
George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy, Inc.
(Saturday School). This program focuses on
English, math, and science in grades 1-12. The
program meets each Saturday morning September
through May from 8:30-11:00 a.m. at Montgomery
Blair HS. A flyer and registration information is
included in the Red Thursday Folder.
MKES Student Wins Top Inventor Award
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington would like to congratulate Vivian Encinas from YMCA
Youth & Family Services (Nob Hill) for achieving Top Inventor Honor at this year’s YMCA
Thingamajig Invention Convention held this past July 23, 2015. We are proud of Vivian for the
hard work, the creative design, and the incredible inventive thought she put into this challenging
competition. Vivian competed with thousands of other children throughout the Metropolitan
Washington region to win this award.
Vivian and her family along with some Linkages staff attended the Awards dinner hosted by the
YMCA and the US Patent and Trademark Office honoring all of the 2015 Top Thingamajig
Winners. We applaud Vivian on this outstanding recognition. Vivian is a student in Mrs. Diaz’s 2nd
grade class.
