Can you believe it? We only have a few more days of school
before the Winter Break. It seems like yesterday that we welcomed
students to the start of a new school year.
Reading From A to Zina program is back again at MKES.
During the last two weeks of school before the winter break, Zina the
dog, our MKES Media Center Mascot, acts as Santa Paws and assist her
Mom, Ms. Lisa Pfeifer, to distribute books to our students. Each child
will be able to select two books. Zina uses her super listening skills as a
reading assistance dog as she visits with students and listens to them
read after they choose their books. We are just so proud of the reading
progress that Zina has helped us encourage in our students. Kudos,
Zina!
As we approach the midpoint of this the second marking period
of the school year, we would like to convene our re-scheduled School
Improvement Plan (SIP) team meeting. This meeting will be held at
the school on Monday, December 7th, 2015 from 3:45 – 4:45 pm. The
parents and staff on the team will review school data on how our
students are performing relative to our school and system performance
targets.
Additionally, in today’s Thursday Folder, you will be receiving
a letter addressing recent news reports about elevated levels of radon in
certain classrooms in MCPS. Indoor Air Quality unit indicates that all
classrooms and offices in our building are below the US Environment
Protection Agency (EPA) recommended limits. Please see the attached
letter for more information on this issue.
Finally, MKES has started a new positive initiative. There are
quarterly awards for students who follow the 3Rs (Respect,
Responsibility or Ready to Learn) or have demonstrated improvement
in those areas. Students are nominated by their classroom teacher. If
your child did not receive an award during the first quarter, he/she will
have 3 more opportunities to earn an award. Please reinforce the 3Rs
with your child both at home and at school.
Sincerely,
Mr. Generlette
Principal
