KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION
9:30am-2:30pm
Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett has released his
recommended operating budget for FY 2017 and is proposing a
$135.9 million increase in spending for MCPS. This is about $44
million less than the $2.5 billion operating budget the Board of
Education had requested. The Montgomery County Council will hold
public hearings on the County Executive’s budget recommendation on
April 5, 6, and 7. This is an opportunity for parents, staff, students, and
community members to share their thoughts with county leaders about
why it is important to fully fund the MCPS budget. To sign up to testify
at a hearing, visit
www.montgomerycountymd.gov/COUNCIL/PHSignup.html or call
240- 777-7803. Stay informed and engaged on the budget request on the
MCPS operating budget website:

Kindergarten Orientation will take place on Thursday, April 14th
and Friday, April 15th, from 9:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m.
Kindergarten Orientation is an opportunity for parents and children to
meet the teachers and visit the classrooms in a fun and informal way.
Parents/guardians of children who will be five years old on or before
September 1st, 2016, can register their children for kindergarten on the
dates listed above. Please contact Mrs. Gomez-Lacayo, our Attendance
Secretary, at school and she will assist you in scheduling a time for
registration. Please remember that on these days, there is no school
for our current kindergarteners.
Hopefully, we have said goodbye to winter weather. However, in the
event that a cold blast drops by for a visit, please continue to monitor
weather reports and dress students in layers.

Lastly, as the days get warmer, schools will have their heating system
converted to air conditioning. Schools mechanical systems are very
different from residential systems. The school’s mechanical system
provides heating, cooling, and ventilation to the entire building. Twice
a year, this system must be shut down for the seasonal changeover,
which usually takes a couple of days. Most importantly, after the
changeover has occurred, the building will not have heat available.
Please prepare your children and have them dress for the weathersweaters and jackets work well for chilly mornings. Happy Spring!!

PILOT Program for three-year-olds is preparing for our 10th year at
Montgomery Knolls Elementary School
Montgomery County Public Schools is looking for three-year-old children in the Montgomery Knolls Elementary School’s
geographical area who can benefit from an early learning preschool experience. This will be the tenth year for the PILOT
Program at Montgomery Knolls ES. We begin accepting applications on February 1 st for the 2016-2017 school year. Classes will
begin in September 2016 and run through middle of June 2017 matching the holidays with the MCPS K-12 program calendar.

provided with a structured learning experience in a classroom program with age-appropriate preschool activities. Students will
work on developing the skills needed to address the MCPS PreKindergarten Curriculum and data will be collected using the
Early Childhood Observation Record, ECOR, a developmental observation system used in MCPS. Children will be peers and
friends with children who have disabilities and who will also be served in the classroom. Classes will be taught by a certified
