Reading
Social Studies
We have been reading fiction books and
Junior Great Books stories to describe the
overall structure of a story including how
the beginning introduces the story and
the ending concludes the action.
Students have been describing how
characters respond to major events and
challenges and the actions taken to solve
problems.
We have also been focusing on building
vocabulary by using a root word as a clue
to a meaning of an unknown word and
identifying real-life connections between
words and their use.
We continue to study basic economic
principals and decision making.
Students have identified examples of
specialized workers in the community
and explained different ways
consumers pay for goods and
services. Students have examined
and compared different types of
markets where buyers and sellers can
meet to exchange goods and
services. They have also described
the advantages and disadvantages of
different market situations.
Students have been working with arrays.
When objects are arranged in rows and
columns, with the same number of objects
in each row and the same number of
objects in each column, this is called a
rectangular array. Students have started
to recognize arrays all around our school
on calendars, charts, bulletin boards, floor
tiles, and quilts! By making models of
arrays, representing them on number
lines, and writing them as repeated
addition number sentences, we are
building a visual for multiplication concepts
to come.
Thanks to Greenwood’s building
service workers, our radish plants
have survived Spring Break! We are
continuing to observe changes in our
radish plants.
Math
Writing
We have finished writing and typing our
book opinions using letter format. Mrs.
Corrado has begun recording these
student book reviews in media class.
