Second Grade
Reading
We are reading a variety of books focused
on identifying challenges the characters
faced and the how the characters
responded to the challenge. We have
begun making real-life connections to the
characters in these stories. In addition,
we have been trying to determine the
meaning of words by using word parts or
context clues to gain meaning.
Classes have begun using Junior Great
Books stories to extend thinking and
participate in shared inquiry discussions.
Spelling
Writing
Students have begun taking a piece of
writing through the writing process.
The writing process includes the
following steps: prewriting, drafting,
revising and editing, and publishing.
Students used a web or made a list to
brainstorm topics for writing personal
narratives. After choosing a topic,
they used a graphic organizer to sketch
out ideas about the beginning, middle,
and end of their stories.
