First Grade Happenings
April 29, 2016
Reading
Math
We read the poem “Vocation” and asked and answered
questions to demonstrate understanding of key details
in the text. We also used sentence-level context as a
clue to determine the meaning of a word.
We represented an addition situation involving
a 1-digit and 2-digit number using a written
strategy. We composed a ten from ones to add
a 2-digit number and a 1-digit number.
Writing
Science
We participated in shared research as we
examined poems. We selected a topic and
described the person, place, think or event
with details to express our ideas and feelings.
We crafted our own poems.
We identified ways people rely on land, water,
and energy. We defined “waste” and recognized the ways people waste resources and
harm the environment.
Social Studies
Words Their Way
We gave examples of economic resources used
in the production of pancakes.
We also described the skills people need for
their work in the community.
Our spelling test will be Wednesday, May 4.
Please send in an extra pair of clothes for your child to
keep at school. The Health Room has a very limited
supply of extra clothes on hand.
