First Grade Happenings March 23, 2016 Reading Math We identified words and phrases in The Lorax that suggested feelings. We also identified the message in the story. We then compared the story to the movie. We applied addition strategies to develop fluency within ten. We added 2-digit numbers to a 2-digit number ending in zero. Writing Science We wrote an about the Lorax’s message from the story. We supported our opinion with details from the story. We completed our sketches for a new playground. We evaluated our playgrounds to make sure there was a variety of natural and human-made objects at our parks. We received feedback from peers. We also wrote our opinion with support to answer the question– Can kids save the Earth? Social Studies We described why and how people protect the environment. We described actions people can take to protect the environment. Please send in an extra pair of clothes for your child to keep at school. The Health Room has a very limited supply of extra clothes on hand. Spring Break We wish everyone a safe and relaxing Spring Break! We look forward to seeing you again on April 4th.
